Felix Kubin is one of electronic music’s most dynamic and versatile performers. A lovechild of the home recording era, his activities include futuristic pop, radio plays and lecture performances, electroacoustic music, compositions for chamber orchestra and working as a curator. He runs his own record label Gagarin Records and is one of the co-founders of the interdisciplinary festival Papiripar in Hamburg.
Kubin’s music is saturated with enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century avant-garde music. Since 1998, he has released a diverse array of albums with various conceptual approaches and played over 100 electronic music festivals such as Sonar, Transmediale, Unsound, Performa, Wien Modern, Présences Electroniques und Ars Electronica. In 2010 he appeared on the cover of the British music magazine WIRE. He likes to move between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations.
His commission works comprise compositions for a.o. NDR das neue werk, Maerzmusik, Presences Électroniques and Internationales Musikfest Hamburg. He also created and hosted experimental radio shows like „Demo Dandies“ (with Felix Raeithel), the interdisciplinary „Call Center for Destruction“ and the radio series „Me & My Rhythm Box“, a live programme produced for Savvy Funk / dOCUMENTA 14 in 2017.
French film director Marie Losier portrayed Felix Kubin in the award-winning film „Felix in Wonderland“, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2019 and has been shown worldwide on film festivals and on ARTE TV ever since.
Felix Kubin’s music is released on editions Mego, Bureau B, Dekorder, Minimal Wave and his own label Gagarin Records.
